Suggested Ages to Begin and How to Progress |

How to Progress:
- Join the pre-instrumental class (PIP) for ages 5 and 6.
- Progress to instrumental development and recorder (IDP/Rec) for ages 6, 7, 8.
- Study an introductory instrument (keyboard for ages 7 and 8, or violin for ages 6, 7 and 8).
- Progress to an instrument of your choice (see table below for ages).
Group Lessons:
- Start with group lessons in an introductory class or instrument.
- Progress to lessons in pairs (AIP - Advanced Instrumental Pairs).
- Progress to individual lessons.
At the same time develop music language skills by joining music language and aural training for ages 8 upwards for all classes and instruments.

*Beginner age is the age the HSM recommends a student start learning.
